Engineering Equipment Manufacturers

Working in the Peenya Industrial Area is something else, especially over here on 8th Main in the 3rd Phase. It is a noisy part of Bangalore, full of the sounds of metal hitting metal and trucks backing up all day long. Our place, Engineering Equipment Manufacturers, is at number 131. It’s basically a big shed where we put together the stuff that other companies need for their factories and workshops. It is dusty and hot most days, but that is just how it is in this part of town. We don't have any air conditioning in the main workshop area, so we just keep the big doors open to let whatever breeze there is come through. Our staff has been here for years, and most of them can tell you exactly which tool is which just by the sound it makes on the floor. We spend the mornings sorting through raw materials and the afternoons actually putting the equipment together piece by piece. It’s honest work, even if our hands are usually covered in grease by the time lunch rolls around. There is a small canteen nearby where we all eat together, and the talk is usually about the latest cricket match or how the traffic on the way to Peenya was worse than usual this morning. We don’t do much fancy talking here; we just build the machines and get them loaded onto the trucks when they are ready to go out to the sites.
