Over here in Indira Nagar, things are usually pretty lively, and at Daniel Cliffords School Of Latin American Dances, we definitely add to that. We spent a lot of time setting up this space so people could have a place to move around without bumping into too many things. Latin dance has its own pace, and we try to get that across to anyone who walks through the door. It’s not a very formal place. You’ll see people showing up in regular clothes just wanting to learn a few steps after a long day at work. We have mirrors on the walls, though they might need a good wipe now and then. The floors take a lot of beating from all the shoes, but that’s a good sign. We talk about rhythm and how to move your feet without looking at them too much. It takes a lot of patience, both for us and for the people learning. Sometimes we trip over ourselves, and everyone laughs, which is how it should be. Indira Nagar has a lot of energy, so we fit right in. We don't have a giant staff or anything, just some people who really enjoy these specific dance styles. We keep the music going pretty late most nights. It’s just a spot where people can come and forget about their usual routines for an hour or two while they learn some new moves.
