Lavelle Road is a nice area, but Club 9 is just a regular spot for us. We are at 40/2. It’s not some big corporate chain. It’s just a place where people come to hang out. We have some regular customers who have been coming since we first opened the doors. The music can get a bit loud on the weekends, but nobody seems to mind much. We spend a lot of time fixing things up. Last week the fridge broke down and it was a whole mess getting it sorted. That’s the kind of stuff people don’t see. We aren’t trying to be the most famous place in Bangalore. We just want to make sure the food tastes like it should. Our staff has been with us for a long time. They know how I like things done. Sometimes we try out new dishes and they don't work, so we just stop making them. It’s all trial and error really. The building itself is old, so there’s always a leak or a creaky floorboard somewhere. We don't have any big marketing plan. Most people find us by just walking past or hearing about it from a friend. It’s a simple way to run a business. We show up, we open the doors, and we see who comes in. It’s been working out okay so far. We just take it one day at a time. This street has changed a lot but we mostly stay the same. We hope to stay here as long as the rent doesn't go up too much.
