Carnatic Gurukals Music School

We spend a lot of time here at Abbaiah Reddy Street in Doddathoguru. Carnatic Gurukals Music School is basically just a place where music happens every day. You can hear the singers from down the block when the windows are open. It gets pretty loud sometimes. We have students coming in all the time, some carry their instruments and others just bring their notebooks. It’s not a fancy place, just rooms with mats and some chairs. The street gets a bit crowded during the evening pick-up times. We’ve been here for a while now, and the neighbors know us by the sound of the flutes or the violins. It’s mostly just us teaching what we know. Sometimes the power goes out and we just keep going by candlelight or whatever light is left in the sky. It’s a simple setup. We don't have a big front office or anything like that. Just a door on Abbaiah Reddy Street where people walk in. The kids from around Doddathoguru make up most of our classes. We keep the instruments in the corner when they aren't being used. It’s dusty sometimes, but it feels like home to us. We just sit on the floor mostly. It isn't anything like those big academies you see in the city center. We just focus on the notes and the rhythm. The walls are thin so you can hear the class next door. It’s just how it is here. We like it that way.
