Our space is at Kalyan Nagar, specifically at AEC Char Rasta in room 309. It is a very busy intersection in this part of town, so there is constant movement and noise outside our windows. We focus on Carnatic music here, but the setting is very modest. It’s just a room on the third floor of a commercial building. We have some mats on the floor where students sit, and a few instruments kept in the corner. The walls aren't soundproofed, so you can hear the city while you practice the ragas. It creates a strange mix of sounds. We don't have a big staff or a fancy reception area. Usually, there is just one person sitting at a small table near the door to keep track of the timings. We spend a lot of our evenings here. The light comes in through the windows in a nice way just before sunset. We don't use any high-tech equipment, just our voices and the basic instruments we need. The stairs up to the room are quite a climb, especially at the end of a long day. Most of our students are from the surrounding blocks. It’s just a place where people come to learn something they enjoy without any of the extra fluff. We keep things very basic and traditional in our own way. It's just about the music.
