Bhagyalakshmi Silk House

Over at 75 Journalist Colony, you’ll find us at Bhagyalakshmi Silk House. It’s a bit quieter here than the main markets, which we actually like. We spend our time surrounded by fabric. There’s silk everywhere you look. We spend hours checking the weaves and making sure everything looks okay before we put it out. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving heavy rolls of cloth around and making sure they don’t get snagged on anything. My uncle used to say that if you take care of the cloth, the cloth takes care of you. We don't have a website or anything like that, we just rely on people knowing we are here. Sometimes the neighbors come by just to chat for a bit. It’s that kind of place. We don’t wear suits or anything; we just wear what’s comfortable for working. The afternoon sun hits the front window and makes all the colors look really bright. It’s a nice way to spend the day. We have some old chairs for people to sit on while they look at the different patterns. Sometimes we have tea together if it’s a slow afternoon. We’ve been in the colony for a good while and everyone knows where we are. It’s just a small shop where we try to do things the right way. It's nice to see families come in together to pick things out for special days.
