Bhagyalakshmi Engineering Works

At Banneraghatta Road 193/4, the traffic never really stops, and neither does the noise in our workshop. We do a lot of heavy engineering stuff here, which means there is always the sound of metal being cut or the bright flash of someone welding in the corner. The floor is concrete and stained with oil and grease from years of work. We have a few big machines that take up most of the room, and you have to squeeze past them to get to the back where we keep the raw steel rods and sheets. It gets very hot in here during the summer months, and the fans don't do much except move the warm air around. We usually wear old clothes that are covered in burn marks and dirt because there's no point in trying to stay clean in a place like this. People bring us all sorts of things to fix or build, from small brackets to larger frames for buildings. We don't have a showroom or a catalog. We just talk to the person, look at what they need, and start cutting the metal to size. It’s a practical way to live. We’ve been on this stretch of Banneraghatta Road for a long time, and we’ve seen the whole area change while we just keep doing the same kind of work every day. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but we get the job done and keep moving forward with the next project.
