About Authentic Bengali Cotton Sarees – Fashion & Trends in Bengaluru
We are located right on the Begur Main Road in Hongasandra, which is a place that stays active all day long. If you know this part of Hongasandra, you know how the traffic can get sometimes. We mostly deal with cotton sarees brought from Bengal because that is what we know. It is a small shop, nothing too fancy, just some racks and a place for people to sit and look at the cloth. We spend a lot of our time folding and unfolding the sarees because they have to look neat, even though they get messy again as soon as someone wants to see the patterns. The humidity here sometimes makes things difficult with the cotton, but we manage. My family has always liked these kinds of sarees, so it made sense to open something like this here. Most of the people who come in are from the neighborhood, just walking by on their way to the market or going home from work. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know about the different weaves and the threads used in these pieces. It gets a bit crowded during the festival seasons, and the shop feels even smaller then. We keep the lights on until late in the evening because that’s when most people have time to stop. It’s just honest work, selling what we have and making sure the counts are right at the end of the day. It’s a busy life but it’s ours.
