Annapurneswari Silks

Annapurneswari Silks is situated at 78 on the 1st Floor of the Wadia Estate. This is in the Bail Bazar area right off Infantry Road. The Wadia Estate is an old building with a lot of character, though the stairs are a bit uneven in places. Infantry Road is always packed with cars, so you can hear the honking all day long from the windows. The shop itself has high ceilings, which helps keep it cool when the sun is out. We have several large tables where we spread out the silks so people can see the patterns properly. The walls have some old photos on them, and the paint is peeling a bit in the corners, but nobody seems to mind much. I usually get here around nine to start the day. There is a lot of lifting involved because the silk bolts can be surprisingly heavy. We don't use any fancy computer systems for the stock; it’s all written down in big registers with red covers. Sometimes the Bail Bazar area gets really loud during festival times, and it’s hard to hear anything else. We just keep the doors open to let some air flow through the place. Most of the people who find us have been told about the shop by their parents or grandparents. It is a simple operation, and we don't feel the need to change how things are done.
