Annapurna Silk Kendra

Our place, Annapurna Silk Kendra, is at 97 on the 1st Floor along East Park Road. We are fairly close to the Bangalore GPO, so the mail arrives early most days. Being on East Park Road is a bit nicer than some of the more crowded markets because there are actually a few trees left on the street. You have to come up the one flight of stairs to get to us. The room is long and narrow, with shelves lining both sides from top to bottom. I usually spend my morning drinking tea and looking at the newspaper before the first person walks in. The light from the park side is quite good in the morning hours. We don't have any fancy music playing or anything like that. It is mostly just the sound of the ceiling fan and the traffic from the main road a few blocks away. The silk we have is kept in plastic covers to keep the damp out when it rains. Sometimes the roof leaks a little near the back corner, so we have to be careful where we stack the expensive stuff. It’s just me and one other guy here most days. We don't talk much, just do our work and help whoever comes up the stairs. It is a steady way to make a living, and we have been in this same spot for a long time without changing much of anything.
