A S Mani Cranes

Our yard is in Yeshwantpur, down Bhasker Lane in Bhuleshwar. It is a gritty kind of place, full of metal and the smell of diesel. We deal with cranes, so there is always something big and heavy parked in the back. The ground is a bit uneven and there are oil stains here and there, but that is expected in this line of work. We spend a lot of time checking the cables and making sure the engines are running right. It is not a place for clean clothes. Most of us have grease under our fingernails by lunch. The office part is just a small room with a desk and some old ledgers. We keep the keys on a big board by the door. Bhasker Lane is quite narrow, so getting the big machines in and out takes some patience and a bit of shouting. It is a busy neighborhood with a lot of other workshops nearby. The noise of clanking metal is pretty constant. We do not have any air conditioning, just a couple of old fans that push the air around. We just focus on getting the machines where they need to go. It is honest, heavy work and we have been doing it this way for a long time now. We do not need anything fancy to get the job done. Sometimes the neighbors bring over some tea when it is especially cold or busy.
