Star Hair Cutting

Star Hair Cutting is located on Sabutala Roaf, which is quite close to the number 2 gate of the airport. Because of where we are, we often hear the planes taking off and landing throughout the day. It’s a small shop that doesn't look like much from the sidewalk, but it has everything we need to do our work. The interior is simple, with a few chairs and some mirrors that are slightly clouded around the edges. We have a small cupboard where we keep our supplies like shaving brushes and different types of combs. The floor is made of cement and can get a bit cold in the winter, but it's easy to sweep up. People stop in because they are heading to the airport or just finished their shift nearby. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us working the chairs and keeping things moving. It can get pretty humid in this part of Kolkata, so the door is usually left wide open to catch any breeze. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but the shop stays pretty much the same. It is just a local spot where you can get a decent haircut without any of the extra stuff you see in bigger places. We keep it simple and focus on the people who walk in. The days are long, but we just take them one haircut at a time.
