Ajay Hair Cutting

Ajay Hair Cutting is a small place located on M B Road in Kolkata. I’ve been working here for years and the shop has seen a lot of things change on this street. M B Road can be quite a mix of busy and quiet depending on the time of day. We open up the shutters early in the morning, usually around eight, and we don’t close until the last person is done at night. It’s just how we do things. The shop isn’t very big, so if more than two people are waiting, it starts to feel a bit crowded. But people just lean against the wall or stand outside and talk. We have some old wooden chairs that are still going strong. I like the smell of the powders and the lotions we use, it’s a smell I’ve grown up with. Most of the people who come here are from the local houses around 700051. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just rely on people seeing the shop as they go about their day. It’s a simple way to earn a living. My hands are always busy with the scissors or the comb. Some days are long and my back hurts, but it’s okay. It’s a good life here in Kolkata. We just keep it honest and do the work that needs doing every day.
