We are over here at the Smelter-I gate in Bhurkamunda. Most days it is just us at the security office watching the trucks come and go from the Vedanta Aluminium site. It gets really hot in Jharsuguda, especially near the plant. We handle the gate passes and make sure the right people get in and out without too much trouble. It is a busy spot because there is always someone arriving or leaving. We have been here for a while now. The road can get pretty dusty with all the heavy vehicles moving around. Sometimes the shifts feel long but we stay busy with the paperwork and checking the logs. It isn't anything fancy, just a small office at the entrance of the smelter. We see the same faces every morning when the workers show up for their shifts. Orissa weather is tough but you get used to it after a few years of working on the ground. We keep the water cooler full and try to stay out of the sun when we can. Mostly we are just making sure things stay organized at this end of the site so the rest of the work can happen inside the gates. It’s just the daily routine for us here in Jharsuguda. We don’t have any big speeches to make. We just show up, do the job at the gate, and go home when the next shift takes over.
