About Hindalco Industries Ltd,Hirakud2 – Metals & Minerals in Bargarh
Living and working here in Hirakud is a specific kind of life. Most of us stay right in the Hindalco Colony. My place is Qr.No. E/100, which is close enough to walk to most spots if the sun isn’t too brutal. Sambalpur is a quiet area overall, but the plant keeps things moving. We’ve got people from all over the country here, but after a while, everyone just blends in. It’s an old plant, and you can see that in the buildings. We spend a lot of time on the shop floor or handling the inventory stuff. It isn’t always clean work. There is grease and heat and the constant hum of the machinery in the background. We have our small routines. Tea in the afternoon is a must. Sukanta and the others usually stop by to discuss the daily targets. Sometimes the power goes out or things get delayed, but that’s just part of the job in Orissa. We don’t have fancy meetings with slides. It’s more about talking over a desk or standing by the gate. The colony is where we relax. You see the kids playing and the families out for walks in the evening. It feels like a small village that just happens to be attached to a huge industrial unit. We’ve been here for years, and most of us will probably be here until we retire.
