Out in the village of Alampur Jafrabad, life moves at its own pace. This inter college is right in the heart of the community in Bareilly. It’s a place where you see cattle walking past the gate and the smell of the fields is always in the air. The school building is simple, with high ceilings and fans that hum all day long. We don't have air conditioning or fancy labs, just the basic stuff needed for the classes. The students mostly come from the local families around Alampur and Jafrabad. They arrive on foot or on old cycles, and the yard gets pretty full of them by eight in the morning. We have a few trees that provide some shade, which is where we usually have our staff meetings if the rooms get too stuffy. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we usually spend the money on books or fixing the roof instead. It’s a quiet life here compared to the main Bareilly city. We follow the state board rules and try to make sure the kids stay focused on their lessons. There’s a sense of familiarity because everyone knows everyone else’s family. It’s not an elite institution, just a local village college trying to do right by the people living here. When the school bell rings at the end of the day, the whole village knows it’s time to head home. We just keep things running as best as we can.
