Dakshin Bankura Smart Agro Producer Company Limited is based over in Kathaldiha, which is part of the Tilaboni area in Taldangra. Malay Krishna Basu is the main contact point for our little operation. Even though we have "Smart Agro" in our name, we are just regular folks trying to use better tools and ideas for our farms. Bankura can get very dry and the ground is often tough to work with. There is a lot of talk about water and how to keep the crops from drying out in the heat. It’s not a glamorous life. We’re usually covered in dust by midday. We set this company up so we could buy things like seeds and tools together, which saves us all a bit of money. We meet up at the office in Kathaldiha to talk about the market prices and who is growing what. It’s a practical way to manage things. We don't have a fancy logo or a big building. Most of our meetings happen sitting around a table or standing in a field. We’re just trying to make sure our families are taken care of. Taldangra is a good place, but you have to work hard to get anything out of the soil here. We’re just sticking together to make that work a little bit easier for everyone involved in our group and to make sure we survive the lean months.
