Agarwal Marbles

Over here on Sarjapur Road, specifically at Carmelaram Post 41, things are always moving. Agarwal Marbles is situated in a spot where the traffic is constant, so we hear the bikes and cars all day long. We spend most of our time in the yard at Carmelaram Doddakenalli, shifting tiles and slabs to make room for new arrivals. It’s a lot of manual labor, and we definitely feel it in our shoulders by the end of the week. We try to keep the different types of marble separated so we don't get confused when an order comes in. Sometimes the rain makes the yard a bit of a mess, and we have to be extra careful not to slip while carrying something heavy. We don't really do much advertising; people just see our sign when they're driving toward the post office or the station. Usually, it’s just one or two of us helping a customer figure out how many square feet they need. We use a lot of tape measures and chalk to mark things out. It’s a very practical job. We don't have a big office, just a small space to sit and have tea when there’s a break in the work. The goal is just to keep the stock moving and make sure we don't break anything during the loading process. It’s a simple life at the shop, dealing with the stone and the locals who drop by to browse.
