Garwadharti Farmer Producer Company Limited is located over in Chilkahar Kopwan, which is part of Rasra in the Ballia district. We operate out of Ram Lakshan Verma's place. Ballia is a place with a lot of history and we take our farming seriously here. The land, or dharti as we call it, is what keeps us going, so that is why we picked the name. We are a group of local farmers who decided that we should probably have a formal name to do our business. Most of us have been doing this for generations, but things are changing now and you need to be a company to get certain things done. We deal with whatever grows best in the season, whether it is wheat or vegetables. The weather in Uttar Pradesh can be very unpredictable. One day it is dry and the next the fields are soaked. We spend our mornings checking on the crops and then we meet up at the house to talk about who needs fertilizer or where we should sell the harvest. It is a simple life but it is hard work. We aren't trying to be some huge corporation. We just want the families here in Chilkahar Kopwan to have a bit more security. We don't have a big fancy office, just a table and some chairs where we keep our records. It feels right to work together like this.
