Maina Devi Degree College

Maina Devi Degree College has been here in Baidauli for a while now. Most people around Azamgarh know where the Pihar post office is, and that is exactly where we set things up. It is a quiet place which is good for students who actually want to sit down and read their books without too much noise from the city. We have the usual classrooms and some space for the kids to hang out between their lectures. It isn't a fancy building with glass walls, just a solid place where people come to get their degrees. The teachers live nearby mostly, so they know the families and the local problems. We try to keep the gates open on time and make sure the registers are filled out properly. Sometimes the electricity goes out because that is just how things are here in Uttar Pradesh, but we manage. Students come from all the surrounding villages, some walking and some on cycles. We focus on the basic subjects that help them get jobs later or go for further studies in bigger towns. The rainy season makes the commute a bit messy for the boys and girls, but they still show up. We have a small canteen where they can get tea and snacks during the long afternoons. It is a lot of paperwork sometimes dealing with the university rules, but we get it done. The office staff stays busy with admissions and exams most of the year.
