Working at Karmakar Chokdi in the GIDC area means you’re always surrounded by the sounds of industry. There’s a constant hum of machines and the smell of various things being made in the nearby factories. Amar Pharma is right in the middle of it all. Our place is basically a warehouse with a small section partitioned off for an office. It’s not the most comfortable spot, especially when it gets humid. We have these big metal racks that go all the way to the ceiling, and we use a rickety old ladder to get to the top shelves. I always tell the boys to be careful on that thing. We get a lot of workers from the GIDC walking past during shift changes. Sometimes they stop to ask questions, but mostly it's just us and the delivery drivers. The desk is an old wooden one that I inherited from the previous guy, and it’s got deep scratches all over the top. We use an old-fashioned calendar to mark our delivery dates. It’s simpler than using a phone app for everything. The water cooler in the corner is probably the most popular thing in the office during the summer months. We don't spend money on fancy decorations because they’d just get covered in grime anyway. We focus on keeping the stock moving and making sure the orders are correct before they leave the chokdi. It’s a tough environment but we’re used to it.
