Our business, Surinder Kumar And Bros, is located in Village Chatiwind on the T.T. Road. This road is a lifeline for the area, always full of traffic and noise. We’ve been right here on the edge of it for many years. It’s a family business through and through. We deal in various goods that the local community depends on. Our shop isn't a modern supermarket; it’s more of a traditional place where things are stacked high and you have to ask where something is. We know our inventory by heart though. There’s a certain smell to the shop—a mix of dry goods and the dust from the road. We spend our days talking to customers, many of whom have been coming to us since they were children. We don’t use any corporate slogans or marketing tricks. We just sell what we have at a fair price. The building itself is old, with some cracks in the plaster and a roof that needs a bit of attention every now and then. We don't mind. It has character and it’s been our home for a long time. We keep our accounts in hand-written books because that’s the way we’ve always done it. It’s a busy, sometimes chaotic way to live, but it feels right. We like being a part of the daily life in Chatiwind and seeing the same faces every morning when we open up for business.
