L. K. Woollen & Silk Mills

We have been here at the Hide Market for quite some time now, just opposite that big National Shopping Complex on the Main G.T. Road. It gets pretty busy out there with all the traffic, but inside the mill, things follow a different pace. We deal mostly with wool and silk fabrics, which is what L. K. Woollen & Silk Mills has always focused on. Most days are spent checking the looms or looking over the latest batches coming in. It’s a bit dusty, honestly, but that is part of the work. People stop by looking for specific materials for their own shops or projects. We don’t have a fancy showroom or anything like that. It’s just the mill and the warehouse space. The machines make a lot of noise, so sometimes you have to shout to be heard over the clicking and whirring. My family has seen the area change a lot since the shopping complex went up across the road. We just keep doing what we do with the thread and the cloth. Sometimes the silk is harder to manage than the wool depending on the weather. We stay busy enough. The G.T. Road is always loud, so we’ve gotten used to the sound of trucks passing by while we sort through the rolls of fabric. It isn’t glamorous work, just regular daily stuff. We keep the doors open and wait for the deliveries to arrive or for customers to pick up their orders. That is about all there is to it.
