Kailash Rice & Pulse Mill

The mill is right on M.M Malvia Road. You can usually hear the sound of the machines running before you even see the main gate. It’s a noisy place because we are constantly processing different types of rice and pulses. There’s always a bit of dust in the air, no matter how much we sweep the floors at the end of the day. We have big burlap sacks stacked up against the walls, just waiting to be moved out to the shops. My family has been doing this for a long time, and the building definitely shows its age a bit. We don’t mind the cracks in the walls, as long as the equipment stays in good shape and keeps running. The road outside is always busy with carts and trucks coming to pick up their loads. It gets especially crowded during the harvest season, and we end up working much later into the night than usual. We don’t have a marketing team or a fancy website to show off. People just know where we are and come by. We sit in the small office near the front entrance to handle the payments and the receipts. It’s mostly just us and a few workers who have been with us for many years. We know the rhythm of the machines by heart. If one sounds slightly off, we notice it right away. It’s hard work, but it is honest work and it keeps us busy every day of the week.
