Jasbir Engineering Works

Our shop is at 13-Namdev Colony, which is right near the Gurdwara Toot Sahib on Sultanwind Road. You can hear the prayers from the Gurdwara sometimes when the machines are switched off for lunch. Jasbir Engineering Works has been a fixture in this neighborhood for a long time. Sultanwind Road is always busy, with scooters and carts zipping by constantly throughout the day. Inside the workshop, it’s a different world. We have the lathes and the drills and that constant smell of cutting oil. It’s a bit messy, but we know where every single tool is kept. Most of the guys here have been with us since they were young men. We’ve seen kids grow up and go to school in this area. We do engineering repairs and make parts for whoever needs them, mostly local businesses. It’s not a fancy business with air conditioning. We just have big industrial fans that move the warm air around. We eat our lunch together sitting on the wooden workbenches. If someone has a problem with a machine, we all gather around it to figure it out together. It’s a real community here. People know us as the place near the Gurdwara. We don’t do any advertising. Word of mouth keeps us busy enough. We just focus on getting the metal cut right and making sure the orders are ready on time. That’s how we’ve always done it.
