D A V Senior Secondary School

Being located near Hathi Gate in Amritsar means there is never a dull moment. The area is old and has so much history, but mostly it's just very crowded. Our school building is right in the thick of it. You can hear the rickshaws and the street vendors from the classrooms. It’s a senior secondary school, so we have kids of all ages running around. The morning start is always a bit chaotic with everyone trying to get through the gate at the same time. The structure itself has some age to it. We spend a lot of time on maintenance, fixing windows or painting walls when we can. Inside, the hallways are narrow and always full of noise. We don’t have those massive sports fields you see in the suburbs. We make do with the space we have. The teachers here have been part of the Amritsar community for a long time. They know the parents and the local shopkeepers. It’s a very grounded place. We don’t go for anything fancy. The focus is just on the daily lessons and getting the students through their exams. You might see the local shops opening up as the first bell rings. It’s just the way things are in this part of the city. We’ve been here for years, just doing the same work day in and day out with the same familiar faces.
