Up here in Amritsar, specifically at 164, Hussainpura, things stay pretty busy. Alpha Print Pack Machinery Co. isn't a huge place, but we manage to fit a lot of equipment inside. The air usually smells like ink and machine oil. If you walk down the street, you can hear our workshop before you see it. There’s a specific rhythm to the packing machines when they’re running right. We spend a lot of time tinkering with parts and making sure the rollers are aligned. It’s dusty work, and our clothes usually have a few stains on them by the end of the shift. Amritsar weather can be tough, either too hot or biting cold, but the machines don't seem to mind much. We have a small front office where the paperwork sits in piles. Sometimes we lose a pen or a notebook under a stack of invoices, but we find it eventually. The neighbors around Hussainpura are mostly other small shops, so we help each other out when someone needs a tool or a hand moving something heavy. We don't have a big corporate team, just a handful of us who know how these machines work inside and out. It’s a practical way to spend the day. We finish what needs doing and then head home to our families, hoping the traffic isn't too clogged near the station. It is just a normal life for us here in the city.
