Chandraraj Agro Farmer Producer Company Limited runs out of Vijaya Chandrakant Avatade’s house, number 785/2, over in Poha Karanja. We’re a collective of farmers from the local area. It’s not a corporate headquarters, just a place where we meet to talk about the crops and who is selling what. Being in a small place like Poha means everyone knows each other anyway. We started this because we wanted to have a bit more control over our own work. Farming is unpredictable enough as it is. We deal with all sorts of things, from grains to whatever else is in season. The paperwork is a bit of a headache, but we have someone who helps with that. Mostly, our days are spent checking on the fields and making sure the transport is ready. It’s a lot of physical labor and staying up late when the weather looks like it might turn. We don't have a marketing team or a sales department. We just have each other and the land. Sometimes we sit out on the porch and just figure things out as they come. It’s a slow life in some ways, but it’s always busy. We just want to get through each season and hope the market stays fair. It’s honest work, and we don’t pretend it’s anything else. We’re just farmers trying to do right by our neighbors and our own families.
