Our group is called Csc Sultanpur Kurebhar Up Farmer Producer Company Limited and we are located in Sudnapurdheka Pakhanpur. Urmila Devi is one of the main people here helping us stay organized. We are all just local farmers from the Sultanpur area who got tired of trying to do everything alone. When you are a small farmer, the big buyers don't always give you a fair look, and the shops sell you supplies at whatever price they want. We thought that if we pooled our resources, we might have a better shot at things. It’s not a complex idea. We meet up when we can, usually after the sun goes down and the work is finished. We talk about what we’re planting and how to get it to market without losing all our profit to middleman fees. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. It's just us, sitting around in the village, trying to figure out how to pay the bills and keep the farm going for another year. Farming in Kurebhar is our life, and this company is just a tool to help us survive. It is often messy and there is always some problem with the paperwork or the weather, but we keep at it. We are just neighbors in Sudnapurdheka looking out for neighbors. It is a practical way of living and we are doing our best to make it work for everyone in the group.
