Our small group is based out in Chhapari, which is a quiet village under the Sikhari post. This whole thing was started around the memory of late Rajnarayan Rai, and we try to keep that local spirit alive in what we do every day. Farming in this area isn’t always easy; you’re always at the mercy of the rain and the soil quality. We don’t have a big office with air conditioning or anything like that. Instead, we usually meet up under a tree or in a small room to discuss what the farmers in the village need. Whether it’s getting better seeds or trying to find a way to sell the harvest without losing money to middle-men, it’s all very hands-on. Most of the people involved are neighbors who have known each other for years. We deal with all sorts of crops depending on the season, and there’s always a lot of talk about the weather and the market rates. It’s not a polished business—sometimes the paperwork gets delayed because someone had to go tend to their own fields, or the power went out in the village again. But we stay honest and we work hard. We’re just a bunch of locals from Chhapari trying to pool our resources so we can all get by a little better. It’s practical work for practical people who know what it’s like to work the land day in and day out.
