Gift Corner

Cinema Road is one of those places that never seems to sleep, especially with people coming and going for the movies. Gift Corner is at shop number 12 in Mayur Market. It’s a small shop, and the glass display cases are packed with all sorts of things that have been sitting there for a while. I spend a lot of time wiping the fingerprints off the glass because kids are always pressing their faces against it to see the toys and trinkets. The lighting inside is a bit yellowish, which makes the wrapping paper on the shelves look a little older than it is. We don't have much room to move around, especially when a few people are looking for things at once. I usually have a roll of tape and some scissors sitting on the counter, ready for whenever someone needs a package wrapped. The floor is a simple mosaic pattern that’s chipped at the corners. During the day, it gets quite warm inside, and the small ceiling fan just hums without doing much. I usually sit on a stool near the door so I can catch whatever breeze comes down the alley of the market. It’s a bit of a jumble in here, with boxes of ribbons and cards tucked into every corner, but I like the way it feels when the sun starts to go down and the market lights come on.
