Ajanta Watch Services is a small place in Diggi Bazar, right near Nala Bazar. It’s been here since I can remember, and mostly, it’s just a room full of tiny tools and glass cases that get dusty no matter how much I wipe them. My father used to sit at this same bench, squinting at gears that are smaller than a grain of rice. Some days it is very quiet here and all you hear is the ticking of twenty different clocks all trying to keep the same time. Other days, the bazar is so loud with people shouting and rickshaws honking that you can’t hear yourself think. We fix whatever people bring in. Sometimes it’s a watch that hasn't worked in ten years, and other times it’s just a dead battery. People stop by to chat about the weather or the price of vegetables while I work on their watches. It’s a simple life. The light isn't always great in the afternoons, so I have to use a big lamp. My hands get dirty with oil and old grease from the inner parts of the machines. I don’t mind it much. Diggi Bazar is a busy spot, and there’s always something happening outside the door. Most people around here know us because we’ve sat in this exact spot for years. We don't have fancy signs or anything like that. Just the workbench and the watches waiting to be fixed.
