Our group is based out of Chincholi Gurav, which is a small village in the Sangamner area of Ahmednagar. We go by Suravi Farmers Producer Company Limited. Suhas Ramnath Abhale is the one who helps manage things from his place here. We are all just regular farmers who have lived in this district for years. Farming in Maharashtra has its ups and downs, as anyone around here will tell you. We mostly deal with the same crops everyone else in Sangamner grows. It felt like a good idea to join up so we could help each other out with the logistics and the selling part of the job. Most days you can find one of us hanging around the post at Chincholi Gurav. It’s not a formal setup where you’ll see people in suits. We are usually in our work clothes because there is always something to fix or a field that needs checking. Ahmednagar weather can be tricky, so we spend a lot of time talking about the rain. This company is our way of making sure our families can keep doing what they’ve done for generations. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but that’s just how it is. We aren’t trying to change the world, just trying to make a living from the land.
