Our place is out here at Gat Number 354 in Sumannagar, right in the Bodhegaon area of Ahmednagar. If you know this part of Maharashtra, you know how much sugarcane is around. We started Shrikedareshwar Sakhar Udyuog Private Limited just to handle what the local fields are growing every season. Most of us here grew up seeing the big trucks piled high with cane moving down the dusty roads. It is noisy work, especially when the crushing season starts and the machines don't stop for days on end. You can smell the sweet molasses in the air for miles around the site. We aren't a fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. Mostly, we are just people in boots and work shirts trying to keep the heavy equipment running and making sure the farmers get a fair deal when they bring their harvest in. Sometimes the heat in Ahmednagar gets to be too much, but we just keep the fans going and stay busy. The address on our official papers says Ahmednagar-414502, but we are really just a part of the local landscape here. We spend a lot of time fixing things that break and talking to the drivers who come through the gates. It is a simple setup, really. We don't have big speeches to give or anything to prove. We just focus on the sugar and the daily tasks that need doing before the sun goes down. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know.
