You can find us over at Ashok Dagadu Barvekar’s place, right at Survey Number 29 in Ranjani. It’s a busy spot in Ahmednagar. Most of us here have been working the dirt since we were kids, and we don't know much else. This group was formed because we needed a way to talk to buyers as a unit instead of just one guy trying to bargain alone. It’s much better this way for everyone. We deal with all sorts of things, from pulses to whatever else is growing that month. The roads out here can be a bit rough, especially after a heavy rain when the mud gets deep, but we get the carts through. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If you come by, you’ll probably see someone cleaning grain or loading a heavy sack. It's a real hands-on operation. Sometimes we argue about the best time to harvest, but we always figure it out in the end. We try to help each other out with equipment when someone’s tractor is in the shop for repairs. The sun gets really bright out here in the afternoons, so we do most of the heavy lifting early in the morning. We aren't experts in business, we are just people who know the land and the crops. We’ve seen good years and bad years. We just keep showing up every morning. It’s about making sure the village keeps going. No one is getting rich, but we get by. We just focus on the crops here in Ranjani.
