Our group is based in Hiwargaon, which is a small spot in Sangamner. You can find us over at Suvarna Pawase’s house, number 765. That is where we all gather to discuss the crops and the prices for the week. Being in the Ahmednagar area, we have our own set of challenges with the soil and the water supply, so Krushnali Farmer Producer Companylimited is basically our way of sticking together. It is a bunch of neighbors who decided that selling together was better than selling alone. We spend most of our days out in the fields, so if you come looking for us, we might be covered in mud or busy with the harvest. There are no receptionists or waiting rooms here. We just sit on the porch or under the trees and talk shop. Everyone in the village knows Suvarna and the family, so it was the easiest place to set things up. We handle things like getting fertilizers or finding trucks to take the onions and other stuff to the market. It is hard work, and some years are better than others depending on the monsoon. We don’t have a marketing team or any of that. It is just real people from the Pawasa area trying to make a living from the land we have. It’s been a learning process for all of us, and we are just taking it one day at a time.
