At Gat Number 199 in Khandala, within the Nagar taluka of A. Nagar district, you will find Krushilabh Farmer Producer Companylimited. We chose the name because we wanted the labor of the farmers here to result in some actual profit. It’s a company owned by the farmers themselves. We aren't some outside group coming in to tell people what to do. We live here and work these fields. Our meetings happen right there at Gat 199, often sitting outside if the weather is nice. We talk about the cost of seeds and where we can get a better price for what we grow. Khandala is a tough place to farm sometimes, especially when the water is low. We try to help each other out with equipment or even just some extra hands during the harvest. Our office is very basic. It’s just a place to store the ledgers and have a roof over our heads when we need to do the accounts. Most of us are more comfortable on a tractor than sitting behind a desk, but the paperwork has to be done. We are just local people trying to get a better deal in the market by sticking together. It takes a lot of coordination and sometimes we argue about the best way to do things, but we always figure it out in the end. It's just how a local business works.
