We run Jaybhakt Farmers out of Daulat Sarjerao Gidhe’s house, which is house number five in Kavitkheda. It is a small village in the Kannad area, and everyone knows everyone else here. We did not see the point in renting a fancy office in the city when all the work is happening right here in our own backyards. Most mornings, you can find a few of us sitting around on the porch talking about the weather or the price of fertilizer. We started this company because we wanted to have a bit more say in how our crops are sold. It is frustrating when you spend months growing something and then you cannot find a decent way to get it to the market. By working as a group, we can at least share the cost of transport or buy our supplies in bulk. We are not experts in big business, but we know our land and we know our crops. Sometimes the paperwork gets a bit confusing, and we have to help each other fill out the forms, but we manage. It is a local effort, and we are proud that it has stayed in the community. We do not promise anything crazy, we just try to be honest and work hard every day. If you are ever in Kavitkheda, just ask for Daulat’s place, and you will find us easily enough. We are usually around the house or out in the nearby fields during the daylight hours.
