Out here at Gat No. 108/2 in Rahuri, the wind blows pretty hard across the fields. Haritkrushi Farmers Producer Company Limited is based right here in Wagh Akhada, which is a quiet part of the Ahmednagar district. We spend most of our time dealing with the reality of the dirt and the crops. It’s a lot of work coordinating with all the different farmers in the area, but it’s the only way to get things done. We deal with whatever the season throws at us, whether it’s too much rain or not enough. The office is just a practical space where we store stuff and meet to talk about the harvest. We don’t have a big staff or a fancy building. It’s just us, working with our hands and trying to make sure the local families can keep their farms going. Rahuri is known for its agriculture, so there is always something to do, whether it’s checking on the onions or looking at the sugar cane. We started this group because we were tired of being on our own. Now, we can buy supplies in bulk and share the cost of moving things to the market. It isn’t always easy, and sometimes we disagree on the best way to handle a problem, but that’s just how people are. We’re just local farmers trying to make the most of the land we’ve got.
