Ganison\'s Furniture

We make tables and chairs and other wood stuff here. Our workshop is located at B/1 Bharat Small Scale. It's right behind Gujrat Offset, near the ice factory by the Vatva railway crossing road. It’s a bit hard to find if you aren't looking for it because it's tucked back there. There is always sawdust on the floor and the smell of cut timber. We work with wood all day long and my hands are always full of splinters. Some days we are making big beds and other days it's just small stools or repair jobs. The machines we use are old and loud. I’ve been working in this Vatva area for a long time now. It’s an industrial spot with a lot of workshops like ours. The railway crossing can be a real pain with the traffic and the noise from the trains. We just keep our heads down and get the orders finished. It's a family thing mostly and we learned the trade from our fathers. The wood smells good in the morning when we first open up. Sometimes we run out of space to move around because of all the unfinished pieces. We aren't a big showroom with lights and sales people. It’s more of a dusty workshop where things actually get built from scratch. People come by to check on their stuff and we show them the progress. We try to finish things on time but sometimes the wood takes longer to dry or the polish isn't right.
