You can find J. P. Furniture at No. 25 Siddhi Estate. It’s a place filled with the smell of fresh wood and the sound of sandpaper on rough edges. We don't have a big showroom with bright lights. Instead, we have a workspace where the actual making happens. There are stacks of plywood and solid timber leaned against the walls, waiting to be turned into something useful. Sawdust gets everywhere, no matter how much we sweep, so we just accept it as part of the job. Working in an estate like Siddhi Estate means we are surrounded by other businesses, but we mostly stay focused on our own benches. We make chairs, tables, and cabinets mostly. It’s about measuring twice and cutting once, although sometimes we still make a mistake and have to start a piece over. That’s just part of working with your hands. We have a few old fans that wobble while they spin, trying to keep us cool while we glue and nail things together. Customers usually come in with a rough idea of what they want, maybe a drawing on a scrap of paper, and we try to build it for them. It’s a slow process sometimes because you can't rush the wood. We like the feeling of finishing a piece and seeing it stand solid on the floor. It’s simple, honest work that keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down.
