Subhani Stores

Ahmedabad gets really hot in the summer months, especially around the Khas Bazar area. Subhani Stores is situated right across from the Karanj Chowky, very close to the Three Gates. It is a very old part of the city, and the streets are always packed with scooters and people carrying heavy bags. We have been at 1771 for a long time now. The shop itself is small, but we try to pack it with as much stock as possible. You will find grains, spices, and everyday household items tucked into every corner and high shelf. It is a bit messy sometimes because we get a lot of stock in at once and do not always have time to arrange it perfectly. The floor is made of old stone and stays surprisingly cool even when the sun is beating down outside. People stop here while they are out shopping in the main market. We see a lot of tourists too, looking confused by the crowd, but mostly it is the locals who live in the narrow lanes nearby. We do not have a big sign or bright lights to show off. Just the name and the items sitting on the counter. We deal with many different people every day, and sometimes it gets quite loud with everyone talking at once. It is just the way things go in this part of town. We keep it simple. If we have it, we sell it. It is a steady life.
