Mahendra General Stores

Mahendra General Stores is located in Devjipura Dariakhn, over in the Shahibaug area. You can find us near Ghummat Shbg. We are a small local store that has been serving the neighborhood for quite a while. Our shelves are packed with all sorts of things, from soap and shampoo to bags of rice and lentils. It’s a bit crowded in here because we try to keep everything people might need. We open early in the morning when the milk is delivered and stay open until late in the evening. There is always someone coming in for something they forgot to buy earlier. We know most of our customers by name and we usually have a quick chat while we weigh out their items. The floor is a bit uneven in places, but nobody seems to mind. We have a small wooden counter where we keep the register and a few jars of candy for the kids. The ceiling fan hums all day long, trying to keep the place cool. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when three or four people are trying to buy things at the same time. We just take it one person at a time. We don’t have any fancy scanners or technology. Everything is done by hand or with a simple calculator. It’s a traditional way of doing things, but it works for us and the people in Shahibaug. We’re just happy to be a part of the daily life here.
