Stylo Hair Salon. Relief Road is always crowded. We are at Shop 71 in Sarvoday Complex. It's right near Relief Cinema, so we see people coming and going for shows. My grandfather started this kind of work and we just kept it going here in Ahmedabad. The shop isn't huge but we have enough chairs for everyone. Usually, the mornings are quiet and I spend time cleaning the mirrors or checking the razors. By afternoon, when the sun gets hot outside, people come in to sit and get a trim. You hear the traffic from Relief Road all day long, it never really stops. We know most of the people around here by name since they live in the nearby buildings. Sometimes people just stop by to say hello while they are heading to the market. We don't do anything fancy, just normal haircuts and shaves like people want. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast so we are always sweeping. It’s a simple life running a shop in this part of the city. We open early and stay until the last customer is done, which is usually late in the evening. There is always someone waiting or a friend sitting on the bench talking about the news. That is how it goes here at Sarvoday Complex every single day, year after year. It feels like home to us now. Maybe we will paint the walls next year if we have the time.
