Smith'S Engineering Works

If you head down to G.I.D.C. Phase-Ii in Vatva, you’ll find Smith'S Engineering Works at plot 139. It’s an industrial area, so it’s always loud with the sound of grinding and metal hitting metal. We are right in the middle of it. We do engineering work, mostly small parts and repairs that keep other people’s machines running. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings, and our hands are rarely clean. That’s just the nature of it. We don't have a fancy reception area. If you come by, you’ll probably find us at the back near the lathes. We started small and stayed that way because it's easier to manage. We don’t use those big computer programs for everything; a lot of it is still done by eye and experience. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside and wait for it to come back. It gives us a chance to talk. We aren't trying to change the world or anything, we just want to make sure the parts we send out are solid. It’s a gritty job, but it’s ours. We take the work as it comes and try to be fair with everyone. Vatva is a tough place but it’s good for business like this. We’ve been here a long time now. We just focus on the next piece of metal that needs turning.
