Span Engineers is located up in unit 904 of the Sur Mount Byzentine building. Being on the ninth floor gives us a bit of a view, though most of the time we’re too busy looking at drawings or spreadsheets to notice it. The building itself has a fancy name, but our office is pretty much just like any other workspace. We have desks covered in rolls of paper and old coffee mugs scattered around. Engineering isn't always as clean as people think; there’s a lot of back-and-forth and trying to figure out why something doesn’t fit the way it’s supposed to. We’ve got a small team here, and we’ve been working together for quite some time now. The elevator in the building can be a bit slow during the lunch hour, so we often just stay at our desks or go down all at once to grab something to eat. It’s a lot of quiet work, mostly just the clicking of keyboards and the occasional debate over a technical detail. We don't have a big sign out front or anything. People usually find us through word of mouth or because they’ve worked with one of us before at a different site. We try to keep things simple and just focus on the projects we have in front of us. It’s not a glamorous job, but we like the challenge of solving problems. The office gets a lot of light in the morning.
