Our place is J-101 in the Ghantakarna Mahavir Co. Market. It’s a big name for a place that’s basically a maze of shops near the New Cloth Market in Saranpur. Ahmedabad is hot most of the year, and inside the market, it’s even hotter with all the people and the piles of fabric. We’ve been here for a while, right in the thick of the cloth trade. Every morning we roll up the shutter and start sorting through the latest creations. It’s a lot of work with cotton and other fabrics. The market is loud, with people shouting prices and laborers carrying huge loads on their backs. Our shop isn't huge, but we make it work. We have shelves that go all the way up, and we use a small ladder to reach the top rows. There’s always a bit of dust in the air from the cloth, and the smell of tea from the nearby stalls is always there. We don’t do much in the way of advertising. Most people know the Mahavir market and they eventually find their way to J-101. We just focus on getting the orders out and making sure the stock is what it needs to be. It’s a busy, messy, and honest way to make a living. We spend our days talking to other traders and keeping track of the market trends in Saranpur. The floor is always covered in loose threads by evening.
