Radhekrushna General Store

Being right opposite Vidhya Vihar School in Krishna Nagar is what keeps us busy. The address is 53/B and we are in the Ahmedabad area. When the school bell rings, the shop gets crowded with kids looking for pencils, erasers, or some small snacks. We have to keep a close eye on everything then. The rest of the day is much quieter. We have bags of flour and pulses stacked near the side wall. Ahmedabad gets incredibly hot in the afternoons so we usually sit near the fan and wait for the sun to go down a bit. The shelves are painted a dull blue and they have everything from toothpaste to cooking spices. We have been in this spot for a long time and we know which neighbors prefer which brand of tea. It is a simple life of weighing out sugar and counting change. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when it is burning outside. We have a small radio that plays music in the background to keep us company. Sometimes we have to move the heavy sacks around to clean behind them. It is a lot of lifting and carrying but that is just part of running a general store. We like the neighborhood and the people who have stayed here as long as we have.
