We are out here at Ravindra Patel's place in Pakakot. It’s near the Post office in Chhani, within the Baroda district. It’s a bit out of the way, which suits us just fine because we have enough space for our equipment. The work we do is mostly mechanical, handling different engineering tasks that come our way. We don't have a big office with air conditioning or anything like that. It’s mostly just the workshop where we spend our hours. The walls are a bit stained from years of oil and smoke, and there are stacks of metal rods in the corner waiting to be used. We start our day early when the air is still a bit cool. By noon, it’s usually roasting, so we take a long lunch under the trees outside. We’ve known most of the people around Chhani for years. They might drop by with a broken tractor part or just to say hello. We don't really do much in the way of advertising. Most people know we are here if they need something fixed or made. The tools we use are heavy and sometimes they're a bit temperamental, but we know how to handle them. It’s a simple life, focused on the tasks at hand and getting the jobs finished. We don't worry too much about being polished. We just keep the machines running and handle the business day by day.
