Payal General Store

Down here at Payal General Store on Station Road in Ahmedabad, things stay pretty busy from early morning until we close up at night. Being in the Kalol area means we see a lot of the same faces every day, which is nice. It’s mostly just us handling the stock and making sure everything is in its place. We don’t have a big team or anything like that. It is a simple setup. We sell the usual stuff you’d expect to find in a local general store. Think about things like household cleaners, some dry snacks, and the basic groceries that people realize they forgot to buy at the big market. The road outside is always full of people heading to the station, so we get a lot of travelers popping in for a bottle of water or some biscuits. The heat in Ahmedabad can be really tough in the summer months, so we spend a lot of time just keeping the place cool enough for the customers and ourselves. Sometimes the deliveries are late or the power goes out for a bit, but that’s just how it goes here. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. It’s just a small shop trying to make sure the neighbors have what they need for their kitchens and homes. We’ve been at this for a while now and the routine stays pretty much the same day after day for us. We just keep the door open and wait for the next person.
